This article summarises the simple process of installing the Stonebloc precast stair solution.
The Stonebloc precast stair solution offers a quicker and simpler option for building stairs in residential and commercial locations. Similar to the Stonebloc retaining solution, the precast stair elements are placed directly on a compacted gravel foundation with a leveling layer. The heaviest element weighs 490kg, and it can be easily lifted and positioned using most small excavators available on site. To install the stairs, you will need two staff members - one to operate the lifting equipment and another to guide the block into place.
Health And Safety
Before working with the blocks ensure as a minimum installation staff have read this article. Installation staff should also conduct a job-specific Job Safety Assessment, complete a Safe Work Method Statement (an example SWMS has been attached to this manual), and consult with other PCBU’s on-site to ensure all hazards are identified before commencing. Equipment should be checked for compliance and necessary certification before lifting blocks.
Never stand under a block, and ensure hands are clear of the block while the lifting equipment is being operated.
Installation Process for Stonebloc Stairs:
Start with a level, compacted, gravel foundation. Typically this is at least 150mm thick, however your geotechnical engineer should advise based on site ground conditions. The foundation should be a minimum of 1200mm, or 150mm wide on either side of the block.
Place the Stonebloc standard stair block, using a level to ensure the block is level in both horizontal directions.
If the total height of the stairs is 450mm, you can easily complete the installation by placing the Stonebloc Stair Capper and filling in the space behind the block with backfill. This step ensures that your stairs are fully finished and ready to use.
If you need stairs that are taller than 450mm, make sure to backfill behind the standard stair while ensuring that the base is compacted thoroughly.
Place a second Stonebloc standard stair, and repeat as many times as required to achieve the full height of the stairs required.
Once you have reached the desired height of the stairs, finish the installation by adding a Stonebloc stair capper. |
