Quality Control Guidelines for Interbloc Concrete Blocks

An article on how Envirocon quality grades Interbloc blocks.

When it comes to ensuring the quality of interlocking concrete blocks, Envirocon follows a set of guidelines to categorize blocks into different grades. Understanding these grades is essential for selecting the right blocks for your project.

Grades of Interlocking Concrete Blocks

  1. Premium Blocks: These blocks are of the highest quality, both structurally and aesthetically. They are sturdy and visually appealing.

  2. Basic Blocks: While structurally sound, basic blocks may have minor aesthetic imperfections or dimensional inaccuracies.

  3. Second Blocks: These blocks have noticeable flaws that make them unsuitable for easy use. They do not meet the standards for premium or basic blocks.

  4. Reject Blocks: Blocks in this category are not only structurally unfit for vertical structures but also visually unattractive.

Criteria for Grading Blocks

  1. Concrete Strength: Premium and basic blocks must have a compressive strength of 20MPa or higher. Second blocks should be at least 10MPa, while reject blocks fall below 10MPa.

  2. Dimensional Accuracy: Premium blocks should be true to size within 3mm, while basic blocks should be within 6mm. Second and reject blocks may have dimensional inaccuracies exceeding 12mm.

  3. Reinforcing Ducts: Premium and basic blocks have clear, usable reinforcing ducts, whereas second and reject blocks lack them.

  4. Single Pour Blocks: Premium blocks are made from a single pour of concrete, while basic, second, and reject blocks may have multiple concrete pours.

  5. Chipping: Blocks are graded based on chipping standards, with premium blocks having minimal chipping, while second and reject blocks exhibit excessive chipping.

  6. Block Colour: Premium blocks maintain uniform color, though slight variations may occur naturally. Basic, second, and reject blocks may have mixed colors.

  7. Lifting Anchor: Premium and basic blocks have properly positioned lifting anchors for easy handling, whereas second and reject blocks may lack or have faulty anchors.

By adhering to these quality control guidelines, Envirocon ensures that each interlocking concrete block meets the necessary standards for structural integrity and visual appeal. Choosing the right grade of block for your project ensures optimal performance and aesthetics.
